Help needed with Mate gourd info
I could use some help from the "seasoned" Mate users: I tried seasoning my gourd I got in Argentina, and used mate & lemongrass
mixture for the first 12 hrs after the scraping (not much came up) I noticed that the gourd appeared to have sevetal cracks. (is this normal) I then did the second 12 hours with a Old brazilian matte, and when emptied 1/2 the Gourd had turned an ugly green. Is this normal? Is it safe to use? or did I get ripped off at a tourist shop?
Thank you so much for any help/info you can give me.

Re: Help needed with info on mate gourd
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 3:18 PMsounds fine with me, you only need to scrape if there is a buncha goo.... lots of times there isn't. you seasoned the heck out of this thing.. as long as the cracks are surface, which they probably are, i would just let the darn thing dry then start to use it. if it does leak from those cracks, then yeah, you got ripped off, but i doubt you did..... yeah it's safe to use, gourds are edible. just don't season it anymore, ok? -
